The company celebrates the opening of its 2018-19 Season in the U.S.A. with a brand-new immersive evening-length creation by international award-winning choreographer and founder of Dark Circles Joshua L. Peugh based on the story “The History of Aladdin, or The Wonderful Lamp.”

Aladdin, حبيبي is a meditation on American rhetoric regarding the Middle East and the stereotypes associated with Middle Eastern races and cultures. The new work also explores how time and imagination have transformed the original tale of Aladdin and his magical lamp. The work touches on women's rights, violence, public pressure, domestic politics, and foreign policy.

A new score for the work has been commissioned from composer and SMU Meadows School of the Arts alumnus Brandon Carson and will be performed live by a six-piece band on a mixture of Arabic, African, and western instruments. The production will feature lighting and scenic designs by Bart McGeehon. Susan Austin will provide the costume design.

Aladdin, حبيبي  is presented by The Elevator Project through a partnership between the AT&T Performing Arts Center and the City of Dallas’ Office of Cultural Affairs. Performances will run October 11–14 at Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, Studio Theatre. Tickets are $25.

DCCD UNDRESSED: Aladdin, حبيبي

Join us for a FREE interactive, behind-the-scenes program called DCCD Undressed. In the lines of MTV Unplugged, we perform in rehearsal clothes, without lights, "undressed" versions of our familiar and new repertoire followed by a conversation with Dark Circles Founder & Artistic Director Joshua L. Peugh, guest choreographers, and the dancers.

This program provides a unique opportunity to view a new creation in an informal setting and provide further insight into the making of a dance. The conversation allows participants to ask questions or voice opinions about the process or about the work itself.

Join us Saturday, September 29 at NorthPark Center's NorthCourt at 12PM and/or 2PM for DCCD Undressed!
